A run, a hike, a bike ride = my perfect three day
weekend. On Saturday, I planned to take
a leisurely seven-mile run. Having
taught kids yoga most Saturdays for the last 2 months, my seven-mile Saturdays
have been on hiatus. I’ve been getting
in my mileage on other days but I retired the long run for a while. So I thought it was going to be wicked hard
to get back to it. I planned to just go
the distance and not worry about time but in fact I finished it faster than I
had since last summer! I also got to see
some friends along the way.

Greg and I managed to squeeze in a date night, dinner and a
show on Saturday as well. We hit up our
favorite sushi place, Kishi. Then saw
the local high school musical, Peter Pan, on the college stage. Many of my Room One graduates go on to the
theater program at CHS. It is a delight to see them so grown up and doing what
they love!
On Sunday, we went out to San Bernardino to visit some
friends. We had a lovely BBQ lunch
followed by a hike into the picturesque hills that butt up to their
backyard. Though the incline was steep,
I was stoked that we got to see a gopher snake wending his way through the
yellow grasses. The view from the top
was breathtaking!
While I did attempt a short run on Monday morning, my calves
were killing me from that steep climb on Sunday, so I returned home gritting my
teeth and asking Greg to join me for a bike ride instead. Sweet man that he is, he agreed. We took a
lovely four-mile ride through the colleges.
Everything is blooming in the desert landscaping at Pitzer and all of
the students have gone home for the summer, so we had the whole place to
ourselves. Though I had lots of end of
the year schoolwork to take care of, we still managed some time in the garden
and in the kitchen. If only every
weekend was a three day weekend!
Isn't that the truth?!
